documentation of war crimes

A British group has begun the process of documenting the multitude of potential war crimes charges that could be brought against Saddam Hussein and his officers. The following quote comes from testimony recorded by this group.

There was a machine designed for shredding plastic. Men were dropped into it and we were again made to watch. Sometimes they went in head first and died quickly. Sometimes they went in feet first and died screaming. It was horrible. I saw 30 people die like this. Their remains would be placed in plastic bags and we were told they would be used as fish food . . . on one occasion, I saw Qusay [President Saddam Husseins youngest son] personally supervise these murders.

It seems to me that what happened to Rachel Corrie a few days ago in Gaza might fall under the heading of War Crimes as well. Judging from the photos that were taken at the scene of her death, it would seem that Israeli troops knowingly ran her over with a tank while in the process of demolishing a Palestinians home. From radio reports that I had heard yesterday, I discounted it. I thought that Rachel, a peace activist from the US, was probably just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now, having seen this disturbing photo essay, I very much doubt Israels recounting of the events.

It is abundantly clear that Rachel, dressed in a bright orange jacket, is well in front of the tank and easily within the drivers field of vision. I had no idea yesterday and such images existed. They truly sicken me My hope is, however, that some good comes of her death. Perhaps it will cause people here in the US to take notice of her cause and look more closely at the methods being employed by the Israeli government. Its hard for me to imagine that people, if shown these images, will not demand answers Now we just have to wait and see whether the US news stays on this story.
