Ionel Talpazan is a Romanian-born artist living in New York. Doug Skinner mentioned him to me in a note yesterday. He said he was given one of Talpazan’s paintings by a friend. Well, I decided to look him up and, now that I see his work, I think that I’m already familiar with it. A few years ago, while wondering around NYC, I happened into the American Primitive Gallery. Their show at the time focused on ufos and extraterrestrial beings. I believe I saw a few of his works there. Pretty cool stuff… According to this site, he sculpts and draws UFOs because of a childhood encounter he had with one… If anyone ever wants to get me a gift, keep Ionel Talpazan in mind. I believe he still sells his work on the street in New York. (I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it here, but I’m quite a fan of self-taught art.)
